We have a tendency to write something in "memory" of someone after they pass away. I want to give honor while those I love are alive. Today is my daughter's birthday. She is thirty-seven today if I remember correctly, lol. I'm thinking back when she was so small, first born. She weighed six pounds and 13 ounces. What a tiny person she was. I can't remember exactly how long she was but sure it was around 19-21" in length. At that time she was the smallest baby born to my side of the family.
I'm going to share something with you that I've only shared with one or two other people. I was a backslider when I had my daughter. I had accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour when I was fifteen years old. One day I'll share with you how I know I was really a child of God then. I was going through so many family problems that I blamed God for not working everything out for me the way "I thought" it should be worked out. So I turned my back on him and took my life back into my own hands at the age of 17. There was not a day that went by that I was not aware I was living my life against the Father's will. I became very rebellious. Even though I turned my back on God and tried to live a good life on my own, temptations were worse. [2 Peter 2:20-22 20 For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. 21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 22 But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.] When I realized I was expecting a little girl I chose the name "Christina" as my way of letting the Lord know I was so aware of his presence and I still loved him. I know it may not mean much to you but it meant to the world to me.
I've worked hard at being a good mother and raising my children in a good loving home. I've enjoyed raising my daughter. She's been very special to her dad and myself. I remember stories my mother use to tell us about our own childhood. She would tell us how she would line my brothers and sisters up on the couch so she could mop the floors and they would sit there until the floor dried. My daughter was the same way. I would sit her on the couch when she was big enough to sit there by herself and I'd give her a couple of books to look at. She'd sit right there until the floor dried. I enjoyed shopping for her. The cute little dresses with bows to match. I could play with her hair all day. It was like playing with a doll. I guess in a sense we never grow up. My greatest desire for my daughter was that she grow up to be a strong woman of God and serve him for the entirety of her adult life. I can't be there to control her and I can't be there to make sure she never gets hurt or make the right decisions. Once she came to the age of accountability she became responsible for her own soul. The only thing I can do is pray for her and be there for her when she needs me.
She is now the mother of two teenage boys and my prayer for her is that she raises them in the admiration and godly fear of the Lord. I know I'm being prideful but I have two of the sweetest grandsons God could bless anyone with. I love my family.
Happy Birthday Christina. My prayer for you today on your birthday is that you are so aware of God's calling on your life and you submit to his will. You will never find true happiness without the Lord to guide you. I pray safety and health over your life. I'm proud of you sweetie! I love you forever and a day!
Being a child of God is not just about salvation. We all have a work to do for the Lord and I want to be found faithful in all I do for my Savior. You may not agree with everything I have to say and that's ok. We, each, are unique individuals shaped by the Master's hands. I hope you enjoy my blog. Feel free to comment.

You're Asking Me? Are You Really Born Again
Isn’t it amazing how many claim to be “Born Again” yet they are nothing like Christ. They don’t appear to be following in his footsteps. Matter of fact they do more harm to the name of Jesus Christ than good.
To my understanding to be a Christian is to be Christ-like. To be Christ-like a person strives to please God not man. When I was born into the Lawson family I took on some of my dad’s attributes and some of my mother’s. Jesus Christ does not have any other "ways" but being upright and truthful. He helped the poor when no one else would, he healed the sick, he was not a respecter of persons. I wonder at times if anyone even take time out to think about how Jesus Christ would feel about the cruel and provoking remarks others are getting ready to say. How can a person be so cruel and consider themselves a Christian? Matthew 7:21—Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. I think this scripture sums it up really well, don’t you.
Jesus instructed an un-named gentleman in the Bible, when asked what he should do to inherit eternal life,in Mark 10:14—One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. Jesus wanted to know what was more important to this man, him or the world. That is what he is asking us today. Are you more interested in serving the world by what you say, how you act, or what you gather or are you going to follow me knowing I’ll supply all your needs (Philippians 4:19) and give you the words to speak (Luke 21:15) in the time that you need them.
Take time today to clear it up. Are you truly born-again (living a life for Jesus Christ) or are you living religiously (claiming to be something your not because the words you speak and the actions you take does not reflect Jesus Christ).
"BEING A GOOD DAD"
Being a good dad is not hard to do if you depend on the Father to direct your path. Believe me, after raising two children I’ve learned hind sight is 20/20. Hearing your children out and not being quick to judge or discipline is a number one strong point. Reasoning with your children accomplishes more peace and harmony in the home than raising cane. I know it’s hard to do but standing your ground is what your children really want you to do. There are too many children out there that tells their parents what to do and when. No way in my household!God made the parent first, then the children came along. My husband worked third shift for 28 years and I had to be the so called villain in the family. I could not expect him to come home and correct the children when he wasn’t even around to see what they were up to. I had to swallow my pride knowing they appeared to love their father more because mom was always correcting them but deep down I know my children love me and respect me. Their dad was there for backup and would have been there for more if not working a grave yard shift. Working graveyard takes a toll on a family where children are involved but I made sure they were aware their dad would do some correcting if need be. Was this a threat? Of course not, it was the hard truth. I believe in tough love.(I'll elaborate on tough love in an upcoming blog).
Fathers are special in their own right. They are and should be the strength of the family. There is nothing like a godly father who seeks our heavenly father’s face for guidance.
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

Coffee With God and Friends is back
I spend my life as Mayor these days. Time, time, there appears not to be enough of it but I know there is plenty of time I just need to organize it much better. The Lord has placed me in a place in my life where life can be confusing, decisions are prayed over and cautiously approached.
Many friends as well as family has told me I'm crazy to be this position. I understand their concerns. Many people blame the city for their own problems. Many wants the city to fight their battles for them. And when we choose not to interfere in their problems or fight their battles for them they turn on the city belittling the city for their failure in not getting involved in something that was not the city's problem to begin with.
Through the many problems we all face I'm excited to be where I am. During the campaign my only prayer was for the Lord's will to be done. Since I won the election I accept it was God's will for my life. I am on a path that leads where only the Lord knows so as the old gospel song goes, I will follow where he leadeth and I will pasture where he feedeth. I'm on a wonderful adventureous journey in my life that is being led by the best teacher in the world. Jesus Christ is guiding me and I need to be sure I pray before making any decisions concerning our city. Daily I pray for our employees, for their safety, for their attitudes, for their obedience to the me as Mayor and to the city since it's the city's money that pays them for their job.
I'm proud of the team I've worked to develop. It may not be fully where it should be but it's getting there. I depend on the Lord to guide me with decisions on my employees and the community.
Jesus has taught me me fear not him who can kill the body only but to fear Him who can cast both body and soul into hell; Rev 11:6
I'm thankful to be where I am in my life and I'm grateful to be a child of the King. The Lord has placed many wonderful strong people in my life and I appreciate them extremely. I'm learning more about my community and I know after my four year term I will be more involved in my community. Life can be what we make it as long as the Lord Jesus Christ is leading the way.
As I'm sitting here drinking my coffee, I will say a prayer for you. I will continue to pray for my city but most of all I will thank the Lord you are still in my life. You're an awesome friend.

TIME IS MOVING RAPIDLY
Time is rapidly passing us by. I didn't realize just how long it has been since I've posted anything. Have you ever gotten so lost in your own world of work and business? That appears to be my situation lately. Where on earth did summer go? Fall is here and the weatherman is speaking of snow!!!!! I never intended to get so busy that I let my gift from God take a side seat. Maybe I was in a desert place to be recharged, ya think? Hold on I need my coffee then I want to spend some time with you.
Ok, coffee is beside me. For some really weird reason our furnace stopped running at the end of last winter so we are using ceramic heaters in two rooms of our 10 room house. So you can imagine how chilly it is in here. It's cold here in our office because I got this myticulous idea to put up walls to separate our home office from the rest of the house so if I begin my home office business it would be ready to go with more privacy. I grabbed a sweatshirt to knock the chill off. A hot cup of coffee completes my hunt for warmth on this chilly day.
Last week actually began our cooler nights. Our son, Johnathan Monhollen, felt impressed by the Lord to hold a week long outdoor revival. Not many showed up because everyone is in fear of the swine-flu virus being introduced to the atmosphere this year. But two young people accepted Jesus as their personal Saviour during this revival and that made it worth it all. We may never understand why God does what he does but He knows exactly what he is doing. If we listen to ourselves we would never think of holding a revival outdoors on any evening when the chances of the temperature dropping may be below 65 degrees.
Billy, one of the men in our church has been a sidekick to Johnathan and Johnathan is Billy's sidekick. If you watched them in church and listened to them talk you'd think they were brothers. Now you're hearing this from me, Johnathan's mother. Our son has had many friends in his life and there has been one other person who I would say was like my son. I feel very honored and blessed to have someone who I would say could pass for a son of mine. Billy supported Jonnathan with his presence and help all week helping him organize and get things in order. Everyone needs a friend like that in the Lord. With our lives being so busy in the ministry it helps to have a brother or sister in Christ who is willing to help hold us up. Proverbs 18:24 - A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
It was a joyful time during the revival yet a sorrowful one. This time last year we had a wonderful lady whom I use to work with when I taught in a christian school, Susan Gilbert, sing with her family at our outdoor revival even though she was fighting cancer. She lost her battle with cancer and went on to be with the Lord recently. In Heaven she found her total healing. I was out of town during her wake and had to work the day of her funeral so I didn't get to show my respects but the Lord knows what an impact Susan had on my life and the love I had for her as a friend and sister in Christ. She was the type of person everyone loved when they met her the first time. Susan was a positive person and found good in everything as well as everyone. I envy her in the sense that she is with Jesus Christ now and speaking with him face to face. 2 Corinthians 5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
Time is moving so quickly I feel life has went into speed dial. One push of a button and everything has changed. We need to be so very cautious that our relationship with the Lord does not change in any other way than a better way. Our walk with Jesus Christ is an important walk. Philippians 1:27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. 7 Remember them which have the rulea over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering the end of their conversation. 8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever. Let us be wise and knowledgeable in our speech for the day is approaching and we should want to be found faithful to the cause of Jesus Christ.
I enjoy talking about the Lord. I enjoy saying something good about God every time a customer comes in. I want them to know rather they are serving the Lord or not that Jesus Christ is real and my life isn't worth living without him. I really can't tell you anything else I'd rather speak about. Speaking of Jesus keeps me from gossiping, keeps me from lieing, and keeps me from being dishonest. Anything that is not good or trusting is not of Jesus Christ. Sometimes I even tease the Lord by saying, "Oh come on God, come down and straighten these people out". haha! We all have our problems but you know I'd rather laugh, share something good with you, than to whine or complain about something I have no control over. Wouldn't you?
Go have your hot cup of coffee, hot tea, or whatever you are drinking on this cold and damp day. I'll speak with you soon. God Bless and love from my home to yours!

Ruth...Who Wouldn't Want To Be Like Her?
Did you know the book of Ruth is such a joy to read? I was so fascinated how dedicated Ruth was to her mother-in-law. After Ruth's husband died, which was Naomi's son, she dedicated her life to a people who did not originally care for her or her people at all. But Ruth won them over with her obedience, humility, and again, dedication to her mother-in-law. Ruth took Naomi's god as her god.
A mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship is a very important one. We may have the attitude, "I married you, not your family" but that is so far from the truth. We inherit one another's family when we marry.
To keep harmony in our marriages we should make a great effort to adapt to the differences in our families and spouse's family. What a great marriage we can have by being more accepting, more loving, and more willing to please toward our spouse's family. Ruth was this type of person. She did not want to leave Naomi alone after the loss of Naomi's husband and two sons. Ruth wanted to go with Naomi and make Naomi's people her people and Naomi's god her god. Naomi tried to send Ruth back to her own family but Ruth begged to stay with her mother-in-law.
This reminds me of the many young women I have heard make the comment, "I married my husband, not his family". It's so sad that many doesn't appear to care if they have their inlaws acceptance or not. I think some are afraid they won't be accepted but when you are serving a living God then He will work out things that you may think are impossible.
I enjoy loving my daughter-in-law like a daughter. I like thinking of her as my "inherited" daughter. She is such a blessing to our family and I'm sure we don't see eye to eye on everything but we can discuss those things we disagree on. We laugh together and we cry together. God blessed our family with a wonderful Christian daughter-in-law. I trust her as much as I trust my children and do not hesitate to allow her to handle financial matters for me when need be. I would like to believe our relationship is a close one, maybe not like Naomi and Ruth but close nonetheless.
Who wouldn't want to be a Ruth. A woman of dedication, obedience, very humble, and eager to please. God was very pleased with Ruth and blessed her by giving her a husband and a son. God saw how willing Ruth was to take care of her mother-in-law.
Wouldn't you like to be a Ruth? You can be, not by losing a husband and clinging to your mother-in-law, but you can be a woman of virtue as Ruth was. You, too, can be a Ruth in today's crazy world.

Mindset Pleasing to God
Dying out to ones self can be a very difficult task to do. We become accustomed to the way we personally do things. We have a mindset that we have grown to depend on rather it is a judgemental mindset, a humble mindset, or a consistent mindset. Let me explain.
A judgemental mindset is when you know you should not judge another person. Matthew 7:1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.Yet, no matter who makes a mistake or falls by the wayside, we just can't keep our mouths shut. We have to put our negative word in or our so called "knife in the back". Some of us like the "I told you so" theory.
A humble mindset is one where you know and act upon what the Lord would expect you to do. You bridle your tongue no matter what you may be thinking. You don't give into the, "You might as well say it since you're thinking it". You know that is a lie straight out of hell and you will not give place to the devil. Psalms 39:1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.
A consistent mindset is much like the humble mindset except you keep that humbleness no matter where you are. If you are in your home you don't give in to personal thoughts because you may be a hindrance to your lost spouse or children. You are a consistent Christian. You make a prayerful effort to gain control of your tongue and your thoughts. James 3:1 If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
Living for the Lord is not a hard task but we make it difficult on ourselves. Right now I'm studying on women's dress, attitude, modesty, etc.. I didn't realize how I would love to disagree with some things but it is of the flesh and I know that I have to listen and read with my spirit and not my mind.
I have been praying for the Lord to search me and reveal those things in my life that are not pleasing to him. Do I like what God is showing me? Surprisingly, No! But if I desire, as I say I do, to do His will then I may not like what God is showing me but I have to accept it because I asked him to reveal those things. I don't want to stay in my own ways. I want to be able to win souls for the Lord. I want to be a great influence on the women I teach in Bible study. I so desire to influence youger women to serve the Lord and teach them Christian life is only hard because we make it hard but if we stay tuned into the Lord then we can live a godly life everyday. Titus 2:4-5 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
Search yourselves and see what mindset you have. Is it one that is pleasing to the Lord. You know in your heart that is the only mindset that is acceptable.

Is It Too Late
By viewing the gas prices I’m sure you can tell that those on fixed income are spending more money without more money coming in. Allowances for increase in food and gas is not added to the monthly check.
We can complain until the cows come home. Until we understand what to do and what steps to take we have no control over these things. Until we make a stand against gas prices the American people will not see a change other than everything getting worse. We need someone to teach us what steps to take to make a difference in the economy. This same teaching works in Christianity. The psalmist David speaks about asking God to teach him to walk in His ways so he will be pleasing to him.
Psalm 25:4-5 Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.
Psalms 27:11 Teach me thy way, O LORD, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.
Psalm 86:11 Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.
Psalm 119:12 Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes.
Psalm 143:10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.
We are failing at seeking God when it comes to making decisions in our lives concerning finances, marriage, children, etc… We tend to think we have all the answers or we don’t want to bother God with such frivolous things. God wants to be bothered. He wants us seeking him for every area in our lives. We will live a more productive life and have less problems if we only turn to the Lord to guide us and teach us his ways. Once we allow Jesus Christ to guide us and teach us in all things then we will be able to deal with the economy, our marriages, our children, our home life, and on and on.
Won't you give your all to Jesus today and allow him to be the pilot and not the co-pilot. Our prayer is that you do just that. May the Lord richly bless you today.
